Threads by Instagram is a microblogging platform recently introduced by Instagram as a direct rival to Twitter. It is a free social media application available for Android, allowing you to use it wherever and on whichever device you want. Connect with your friends, family, fellow creators, and fans over Threads.

Integration with Instagram

Ever since Meta was formed, the company started its mission to integrate all the social media apps in a way that they form a social media ecosystem of their own. When Instagram was acquired by Facebook, users saw a seamless integration of both social networks. Now that Meta has introduced Threads, there is a complete integration between it and Instagram.

When you install Threads for the first time, your Instagram username becomes your Threads username. It provides you with the option to follow everyone you were following on Instagram, and if people who were following you on Instagram join Threads later on, it will provide the same option to them as well.

When it comes to account management and settings, it is entirely associated with your Instagram account. Please note that once your Threads is associated with your Instagram, you cannot delete the former account without deleting the latter.

What is Threads?

As the name suggests, Threads refers to a thread that is often created on Twitter or any social media app where people string posts together and form a thread of sorts. 

It allows users to post text-based posts of up to 500 characters, and in case there is a post longer than that, then it can be a succession of posts threaded together. Users can reply to each other's posts or threads, as well as repost and quote. The repost option is an option to share the post of the user who posted.

When it comes to the quote option, users can repost the original post with their thoughts. Lastly, there is the option to give a thumbs up or like to anybody's post including your own.

Unique features

Threads provide users with the option to control their privacy in an advanced way, allowing users to block, mute, restrict, report, or perform any of the mentioned actions against any account. Another unique feature is the screenshot notification, which is sent to anyone whose post you have taken a screenshot of.

Conclusion

Threads by Instagram is a great alternative to Twitter, especially for people who prefer Meta's platform as it offers seamless integration between their applications. While there are certain limitations of the app as it is relatively new, the latest features are being added in every update. The UI is on par with all other Meta applications.
